DARLING HARBOUR LIVE

A craneage solution for ‘the new face of Sydney’

SHARE

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Infrastructure NSW’s vision to transform Darling Harbour was one of the largest urban regeneration and infrastructure development projects ever undertaken by the NSW Government.

For Marr and the Darling Harbour Live consortium led by Lend Lease, the project demonstrated how heavy lift cranes, predominantly used in large-scale industrial projects, could be successfully used on high density inner-city infrastructure projects.

THE CHALLENGE

Managing lifts of up to 100 tonnes on a redevelopment that was still in the process of final design approval added to the challenges of working on a congested urban site surrounded by light rail, public roadworks, existing buildings, additional construction work and the general public.

OUR SOLUTION

Working directly with Lend Lease and the DHL Consortium, Marr’s team developed a craneage solution that was flexible enough to accommodate the scale and variables that the project presented. One of the biggest challenges of the project was the installation of heavy concrete pre-cast elements, weighing up to 100 tonnes.

THE RESULT

Introducing our heavy lift crane fleet allowed our client to build the project in a completely different way – with the ability to build the job in a sequence that suited their construction methodology, rather than being beholden to the limitations of the craneage. At the completion of the job we had designed, planned and supervised the installation of over 100 critical lifts for elements weighing between 10 and 100 tonnes. It also redefined how infrastructure projects can be constructed.

Our solution allowed Lend Lease to maintain their original program, despite the pressure of design changes throughout the project. By completion, 100 critical lifts for elements weighing between 10 and 100 tonnes had been completed without incident.

LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW WE COULD ADD VALUE TO YOUR PROJECT

We work with our clients to find a craneage solution that works – no matter how big or complex the job is. If the right crane doesn’t already exist, we’ll build one to suit the needs of your project.

ABOUT US

We’re not just a crew and cranes for hire. We’re big thinkers and problem solvers who love a challenge. No problem is too big for us.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that the crane needs to suit the job, not the other way around. We don’t just hire cranes – we design craneage solutions.

OUR HERITAGE

We’re a third-generation family-owned and run business with a strong sense of tradition and loyalty engrained in what we do and how we work together.

OUR PEOPLE
